AMWJU celebrates 51st foundation day

The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) observed its 51st foundation day at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today.
The event featured floral tributes at the Journalists' Memorial Pillar within the press club complex and the presentation of gifts to former AMWJU presidents, general secretaries, founding members, and Editors of various media houses.
The observance was graced by Thongju AC MLA Th Biswajit as chief guest, AMWJU president Asem Bhakta as president and Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan, and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram as guests of honour.
At the function, Th Biswajit urged media houses to ensure news is published based on verified facts, noting that he sometimes observes a lack of filtering in reports.

He also called for balanced news after listening to both parties to make it positive and ensure there is no communication gap between people and the Government.
Stating that the infrastructure project at Manipur Press Club was taken up not just for AMWJU but for the people of Manipur, the MLA assured said that he will tend support in taking up more projects at the press club.
Addressing criticism from a senior Congress leader regarding the Prime Minister's visit tb Manipur on September 13, Biswajit, without naming the leader, stated that completing projects requires time and that once initiated, projects must be seen through to completion.
Acknowledging that the Congress party initiated numerous projects in Manipur during its tenure, the BJP MLA maintained that the Congress must also admit its inability to complete many of those projects.
Biswajit also responded to the senior Congress leader's criticism that the Prime Minister failed to present a roadmap for restoring normalcy in Manipur, stating that the crisis in Manipur is a sensitive issue and there are confidential matters which cannot be announced publicly.
Kh Joykisan, on the other hand, emphasized the critical role of State leaders and the media in restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
He cautioned that failure to resolve the crisis swiftly would result in significant setbacks for Manipur's younger generations.
The MLA urged all stakeholders to avoid blaming entire communities for any issue and instead propose constructive solutions, particularly during discussions on TV channels.
On the issue of drugs, he emphasized the need for more stringent laws to effectively combat drug-related problems.
He shared that he has maintained close ties with journalists even before entering active politics and has consistently extended support to them whenever needed.
Joykisan also announced that the installation of a lift system at the Manipur Press Club will commence as soon as the necessary paperwork is finalized, with the goal of completing the project before the Manipur Press Club's foundation day on January 6, 2026.In the evening, candles were lit at the Journalists' Memorial Pillar in a solemn tribute to the deceased AMWJU members.
