Neglected for the last many years and having no access to medical attention people living in nearby villages of Ukhrul district's Chingai sub-division and from beyond the border thronged a free medical camp held on April 11 and 12 at Poi village.
Out of over 1462 people who availed treatment opportunities provided for two days in Poi village include 152 Burmese living in border settlements.
Poi village is located about 152 kms from the state capital.
In the medical camp held under the sponsorship of North Imphal United Clubs and Meira paibis' Organisation was an elderly Burmese national Ngairambam who lamented that had such medical facilities been available in his native village nature might not claimed his young son.
Ngairambam, nevertheless, expressed gratitude to Poi village elders for informing on the medical camp well ahead of the day which enabled himself and other Burmese villagers to arrive at the camp site in time.
In the medical camp held under the supervision of eight JN Hospital doctors led by ENT specialist Dr S Raghumani patients requiring medical attention included 150 cases related to ailment of children, 217 medicine cases, 188 surgery, gynaecological cases numbering 150 patients, ENT accounting for 119, dental problems totalling 60, malarial diseases in 37 persons and skin diseases listed at 26.In connection with the same programme vaccination of canine population in villages located close to the Myanmar border were also conducted with material assistance of Manipur Chemist and Druggist Association in which around 151 dogs were vaccinated to check outbreak of rabies disease.
Personnel of RIMS Hospital, State's Medical Directorate, Health Department, Malaria Department, MACS, MSSRAM, CRU and MCDA also contributed their mite in successful conduct of the medical camp.
