Imphal, Aug 14: Troops of 18 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 26 Sector AR gunned down two UNLF cadres at Leibi area in Chandel district yesterday at about 7 pm.

Quoting Assam Rifles authority, PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement said that acting on specific information of the presence of militants in the said area, the AR personnel were pressed into service wherein they laid multiple ambushes for the militants.

The militants were caught in the ambush, said the statement and added that in the follow up action, two of them were killed.

One AK-47 Rifle, One .303 Rifle and one Radio set were recovered from the slain cadres, added the statement.

The bodies of the slain militants have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station, said PIB (Defence Wing).

The operation launched by the Assam Rifles personnel was called off today evening.
