Imphal, October 12 2009: In continuation with its efforts to promote sport and cultural activities in Thangjing area, 16 MARATHA LI is providing full cooperation and all possible support in organizing Thangjing Area Youth Union Olympic 2009 .

The event which began from today will continue till October 20 at Gothal Play Ground.

The mega sports event comprises of fifteen disciplines which includes football, volleyball, basketball, badminton championship for girls and boys and also athletics events.

A total of 500 boys and girls from the Thangjing area will participate in the event.

The event was inaugurated at Gothal play ground by the Commanding Officer 16 MARATHA LI in an environment of enthusiasm and festivity.

The event covers almost 50 villages of the Thangjing area and was attended by all the village Chiefs.

The army has extended all the support to the organizers to ensure that the games are run smoothly.

Expressing deepest gratitude to the army, Lunkhotinthang, president, TAYU thanked the army for their co-operation and support for organizing the event.

He also complimented all the activities of the 16 MARATHA LI and their initiatives in their public contacts.

Manipuri are a sport loving enthusiast and the event is to spot natural talents of the area and to provide a platform for youth to excel further and represent the national teams in their choice of sports discipline.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest wished all the sportsmen good luck, to reach more glories and represent their country.

He also conveyed to the villagers about how the youth could be a part of Army Talent Search and teams and that the importance of sports in the army their skills could be further nurtured to excel.

He also told the youth that interested people could join the army teams in various part of the country provided they clear the mandatory physical requirements.

He gave example of a few who have been selected from the region, where army will help fulfil the dreams of these young boys and sports men.

The response to the mega event in Thangjing region has been taken positively by all the villagers, according to a statement of PIB Defence Wing.
