Imphal, October 11: Conveying serious concern over the decision of the State Government to terminate services of part time lecturers, the Manipur College Students' Union noted that this decision has severely disturbed the academic atmosphere and normal functioning of the College.

A statement issued by the Students' Union has declared launching class boycott stir with immediate effect until the State Government make viable arrangement to ensure regular class to the students.

It also mentioned that Manipur College had 22 part time lecturers.

Likewise, taking strong exception to the termination order issued against the part time lecturers, Lilong Haoreibi College Students' Union has also launched indefinite class boycott stir until an agreement is reached with the part time lecturers.

The students of the College were constrained to launch the stir as out of the total of 70 lecturers in the College, 33 were part time lecturers who have been terminated from service as per the Government order, said a press release issued by the Students' Union.

Asserting that termination of the part time lecturers has seriously jeopardised education of the students, the student body has warned the State Government of strong agitation of various sorts if the students are not ensured proper education under a pragmatic policy by October 15. In the same vein, the CI College Students' Union, recalling contribution of the part time lecturers for the last many years in imparting education to the students, has urged the State Government to ensure quality education peacefully under a perfect academic atmosphere after framing a rational State policy in the regard.

A statement issued by CI College Bishnupur Students' Union also cautioned the State Government of strong agitations if the current impasse with the part time lecturers are not resolved amicably at the earliest instead of terminating them en masse.

Taking strong exception to the termination order issued against part time lecturers and demanding guarantee for regular classes, students of Imphal College set afire a large number of official documents and furniture items today afternoon at the College gate.

On the other hand, students of DM College of Commerce and GP Women's College staged wakat meephams within their respective college campuses in protest against the decision of the State Government to terminate the service of part time lecturers.

Joining the outcry against termination of part time lecturers, the Thoubal College Students' Union has boycotted class today while warning of strong agitation from October 17 if the State Government fails to take up positive measures in the meantime.
