Imphal, April 11:
Saluting all the martyrs who have laid down their lives for the sake of the land and the people, the proscribed RPF today said that it has been offering its tribute at the martyrs' site at Cheiraoching every year on April 13.The momentous date is once again nearing, said the outfit in a statement and appealed to all the people, clubs, organisations, meira paibi lups and others to pay tributes to the martyrs at Cheiraoching.
Recalling the significance of April 13, RPF said that it was on this day in 1982 that Oja Kunjabihari along with 8 other cadres laid down their lives at Kodompokpi.
The incident at Kodompokpi was a water shed in the revolutionary movement as Oja Kunjabihari and the others did not surrender but fought till the end against the enemy added the outfit.
Since 1990, April 13 has been set aside as a special day to pay homage to the revolutionaries, said RPF and urged the people to cease work on the day and pay homage to the heroes.
The outfit also urged the people to suspend all entertainment programmes on the day and added that essential services such as water supply, funeral services and tending to the sick and ailing may be carried out.
The outfit also urged all cinema halls to remain closed for the day.
RPF also appealed to the people to light up their gates on the day.
