Noney, (Longmai), July 07 2012:
With the Imphal-Jiribam highway left imperilled after blasting the rocks using dynamites/explosives near Nung Dalan without putting in any safety measures, serious damages were caused to a vehicle when rocks and boulders slid down the hill slopes.
The incident happened at a spot known as Charakhou near Nung Dalan at about 4 pm yesterday where the highway was still blocked due to sliding rocks.
One Tata truck heading for Imphal from Jiribam suffered damages when the heavy rocks fell upon it.
However, the transporters escaped unhurt.
Kanan, owner of the truck who is a resident of Noney said that staff of 25th BRTF have been cutting roads along side the hill slope using explosives for expansion of the highway.
Even as huge rocks were left in a very unstable position after the power explosions, no safety measures were taken up.
Subsequently, the loose rocks fell and slid down in large numbers.
Last year too, some security personnel were killed when loose rocks slid down the hill slope over the highway.
If the BRTF's nature of working is not amended, there would be many more casualties in future too, said Kanan.
He also asserted that the damaged truck ought to be repaired by the agency which left the blasted hill slopes unattended.
