Imphal, November 03:
Sounding a stern warning against the detractors of Meetei Mayek, Meitei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has appealed to all concerned to retract their stand.
In a statement, deputy secretary publicity of the Lup Kh Chandrakanta Khuman said yesterday's attempted arson at Maharaj Bodhachandra College where the Government was planning to issue forms for recruitment of primary teachers without heeding its demand of giving preference to candidates having Meetei Mayek experience was just a demonstration of a part of its strength.
While urging all the aspiring candidates not to collect the said recruitment forms from the designated police stations as announced by the Government, MEELAL has also warned that any one who do not listen to this appeal should be ready to bear the consequences.
Reacting strongly to the remarks purportedly made by Education Commission (S) S Budhichandra in the press, MEELAL said it was nothing but an attempt to spoil the career of the students and continue to suppress the promotion of the original script which has been revived by the people after long years of struggling.
Taking serious note of the opposition in introducing the script Taking serious note of opposition on introducing the script as an academic discipline in the schools and the announcement made by Churachandpur District Students Union (CDSU) to remove hoardings written in Meetei Mayek, the MEELAL statement pointed out that the student activists should consult the white paper produced by the Government on introduction of Meetei Mayek, the copies of which are also in the possession of their own elected representatives.
Appealing to the student body to review its stand, the statement further pointed out that there should not be any objection to the students who either like to learnt the subjects concerned through Roman script or through Meetei Mayek.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of all the units and branches of MEELAL has been convened at its head office tomorrow at 11 am to deliberate on the present impasse.
