Imphal, Sep 03:
Describing arrest of its two activists and framing false charges of having connection with underground organisations as a larger conspiracy to curtail the activities of the civil organisations fighting for the cause of human rights in Manipur, Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS) has called upon all the people to stand united and fight against such false propaganda.
In a statement, secretary organisation of TIPS Waikhom Ananda Meitei observed that the arrest of TIPS activists who are mobilising the people and other civil organisations to register protest against bomb blast at ISKCON is an attempt to mislead the people and divert their attention from the issue at hand.
The people should be aware of the fact that the crack down on TIPS is a part of a larger conspiracy to wipe out the Manipuri people from the face of the earth and curtail the activities of the civil organisations which have been raising voice of concern over the rampant violation of human rights by the security forces in Manipur, the statement said while cautioning the people against false propagandists who are masquerading among their midst.
While maintaining the role of civil organisations are being recognised all over the world as an important pressure group, the statement lamented that it is not so in a State like Manipur which is part of a country claimed to be the largest democracy in the world, where the civil organisations are being targeted.
Here the security forces are given free hand to unleash reign of terror among the people and any attempt to oppose it are being faced with strong resistance from the side of the Government and its law enforcing agencies, the statement further said.
TIPS also decried the recent killing of a youth at Samurou and the mindset of the Government that the matter can be resolved by offering some ex-gratia money.
This only exposes the inherent weakness of the Government, added the statement.
