Paying rivh tributes to Ima Kombi, the 6th death anniversary of the Meira Paibi leader was observed under the aegis of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Manipur at a function in GM Hall here today.
Social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Longjam Ongbi Memchoubi Devi and president of MEPWAK Moirangthem Keinahanbi attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Delivering the key note address, joint secretary of Poirei Leimarol Meira Pibi Apunba RK Landhoni said Ima Kombi was a woman leader who had fight for a society devoid of atrocities till her last breathe.
Born on January 5, 1932 at Kwakeithel Heinou Khongnembi Konjeng Leikai, Ima Kombi started working for the welfare of the society by becoming an active member of All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj in 1980 .
In order to strengthen the Meira Paibi movement in Manipur, she played a pivotal role in the formation of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Manipur on August 25, 1985 .
Landhoni observed that just offering floral tributes in her remembrance may not be what Ima Kombi would have expected from the people.
Each one of us should try to follow the path shown by her.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Iboyaima described Ima Kombi as a brave and determined woman leader who sacrificed her life fighting for social justice.
He also exhorted the people to come together and fight for the rights and justice of the oppressed section of the society.
Among those invitees who spoke at the occasion, Prof Dhanabir Laishram of Manipur University noted that the recent public agitation over the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident was not a failure but a success.
He also called upon the public leaders to be selfless.
Chinglen Maisnam of Economics Department, Manipur University maintained that the good news about Manipur in recent times is the winning of award by a Manipuri film based on the atrocities being committed by the security forces with immunity granted under the Armed Forces Speical Powers Act at International level competitive and blank out of State police, which normally received the highest number of Gallantry awards, from the selection list this year.
Leaders of various women organisations also spoke at the occasion.
