Imphal, April 30:
Gearing up its activities for the upcoming State Assembly election, Janata Dal (United) Manipur Unit has announced that it would be fielding not less than 50 candidates.
Announcing this during a press conference convened at the Khoyathong party office today, newly elected State unit party president S Ibobi said JD(U) is a formidable political organisation which has its influence all over the country.
In order to strengthen the base of the party in Manipur, conferences would be organised in all the Assembly Constituencies very soon.
JD(U) would also be fielding not less than eight candidates in the election of the Imphal Municipal Council which is scheduled to be held on May 30, he informed.
Launching a scathing attack on the ruling Congress led coalition SPF Government, Ibobi said it has failed not only in administration but its plans and policies are anti-people.
The attempt made by the Government to appoint a large number of adhoc teachers by notifying to the school inspectors has been stopped by AMSU and DESAM, he said, adding that it is learnt that upto Rs 1 lakh from each candidate is likely to be taken to effect the appointment.
The main objective of JD(U), which is not only at the helm of power in Bihar, but also an important partner of the Governments in various State, is to work for the welfare of the poor and downtrodden people, he said, adding that JD(U) is making efforts to bring together the various factions of Janata Dal.
While pointing out that the number of Congress MPs in the Congress led coalition UPA Government at the Centre is only 145 while the MPs of other partner parties constitute 170, Ibobi observed with difference of opinions within the coalition partners, the future of UPA Government is unstable.
Cracks have started appearing with some of the forces within the UPA Government trying to installed a Prime Minister not belonging to the Congress.
In such a situation, if the question of formation of a third front at the Centre takes shape, JD(U) would take an active role, he said.
When asked about his opinion on the efforts being made for unification of all the local political parties in Manipur, Ibobi maintained that no definite shape has come about in this regard and would require further observation.
Many of the leaders who are trying to bring together all the local political parties lack leadership quality, he asserted.
