All Manipur Public Works Department Employees and Workers' Association has decided to launch an indefinite cease work strike with effect from 10 am of June 23 in pursuance of its long standing demands.
The demands of the Association include reviewing of the recent Government policy of transferring all Work-Charge/Casual and Muster Roll from Public Works Department to the Department of Panchayati Raj, conversion of Casual/Muster Roll Employees to Work-Charge establishment, regularization of Work Charge employees, confirmation of remaining Work Charge employees, amendment of Terminal Benefit Rules, 1978, revision of minimum wages as recommended by the Manipur State Minimum Wages Advisory Board with payment of Variable Dearness Allowance, reviewing of downsizing of staff strength vide memo no 1/15/2000-FC dated 19th March, 2000 and promotion of service from class I to grade IV employees.
Presenting a statement of the case, general secretary of the Association Y Ibomcha Khuman said that the Association has been pressing hard the Government for fulfilment of these demands since 1991.
