Intensifying the ongoing agitation to replace Bengali script textbooks and introduce Meetei Mayek script textbooks in all the schools and colleges of the State, Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasilon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) activists continued to burn Bengali script textbooks in different parts of the State today.
At Top Mayai Leikai, MEELAL's volunteers set ablaze a large number of Bengali script text books this evening at around 5.The activists also shouted slogans during the protest demanding introduction of Meetei Mayek scripts in all the schools, colleges as well as at the university level.
Similar protest were also staged at New Checkon this evening by MEELAL's Checkon branch volunteers who came out on to the street and set fire to a large number of books which had been seized from book stores and schools located in the area.
The volunteers were led by MEELAL's Checkon branch president Kame-shore Gurumayum.
Some of the book stores and schools from where the books were seized are AM & Sons Book Store New Checkon Bazar, Ghani English School Hafi Hatta, Halley English School Wangkhei Khunou, North Eastern English School Soibam Leikai, St Xavier English School Khurai Ahonggei and Nongmeibung Primary School.
