Imphal, November 08:
Opposition parties FPM and MPP have expressed strong resentment against the recent UNC-sponsored meet that decided to launch a non-cooperation movement against the State Government even as the United Committee Manipur has decided to convene a meeting to discuss the matter.
The decision was taken against the interest of all the ethnic groups co-existing in the State and as such it is condemnable, said MPP president O Joy Singh.
On being asked about the UNC statement which stated that sitting and former Naga MLAs and Ministers besides MP Mani Charenamei joined the meeting, Joy said that if they really have the intention to defy the aspirations of the whole people, they should resign from their respective posts.
FPM president L Chandramani questioned the logic behind passing such provocative statements that hurt the sentiments and feelings of the entire cross section of society.
That was not a correct step and they need rethinking, Chandramani, who is also a former Deputy Chief Minister said, while assuring that his party would find out if any of its MLA had participated in the meeting.
Meanwhile, taking serious note of the issue, United Committee Manipur (UCM) has said that it would convene a meeting to discuss the matter and ensure that the territorial integrity of Manipur is not compromised at the cost of certain vested interests.
A spokesman of UCM said that a meeting would be convened to work out measures to strengthen emotional integrity amongst all the communities of the State.
It may be recalled here that BJP National vice president Venkaiah Naidu, while expressing dissatisfaction over the UNC decision during a recent press conference had stated that everything can be sorted out through discussion and dialogue.
