Imphal, June 11: To promote peace and restore a sense of security amongst the people of Marao village, a Peace Mission Team including a functionary of the cease fire monitoring cell of NSCN, W Shimray, Ex-CAO, Wung Region, philanthropic organisations like TNL, TMNL, TSL and TKS and Assam Rifle authority including its high ranking officers like DIG, B Range 10 Sector Somsai, Ukhrul visited Marao Village under Phungya sub-division.

Tension ran high at the said village after the Assam Rifles authority served a quit notice to the NSCN camp at Kasumung Bn (K S M ) on June 2. With neither side showing any signs of easing their stand, the villagers fled their homestead for safer climes.

Members of the peace team said that the villagers returned only after the NSCN (IM) and the AR authority reached an understanding.

In fact the villagers were warmly welcomed back by both the AR and NSCN.
