In what could be unofficially described as the 'most common feature/trend' giving nightmarish experience to the general public regarding uniformed personnel taking undue advantage of prevailing fluid law and order situation some persons allegedly led by an ex-serviceman of AR demanded money, vehicle and gold ornaments from an individual at Lamboi Khongnangkhong, Uripok.
The individual identified as M Komol Singh, who was critically injured after stumbling at his residence on seeing the instruction of the team in house for the second time later passed away at RIMS Hospital last night at around 10 O�clock.
When contacted, PRO of Assam Rifles Lt Col Mathur, however, denied the allegation and asserted it was intended to tarnish the image of the Assam Rifles.
Nonetheless, he assured that the matter would be probed into and process fitting action against any ex-AR personnel found involved in the matter.
According to press sources, in connection with the incident, a complaint was lodged with the Commander of 9 Sector and the copy of the same submitted to the State DGP.
The complaint lodged by RK Indramanisana, wife of Komol on December 13 stated that on December 11 at around 11.45 pm, some persons intruded in her house and conducted search but no incriminating article was recovered.
The raiding party included some in Army attires with the others in civies, the complainant noted.
Among the intruders, she knew one Mutum Tonu Meetei (50) of Kumbi, an ex-serviceman of 23 Assam Rifles, who was leading the team.
Tonu asked here family to keep Rs 50,000, gold ornaments and a brand new two wheeler.
They asked here to hand over the same to them near Chingmeirong post, she said, adding that the team had also obtained signatures of her, her son and daughter-in-law on a blank paper.
The team also took away the identity card of his son, a Taekwondo referee and told her that it would be exchanged with the demanded amount and the articles at the appointed place.
She further noted that there had been some altercation between Tonu and her family over a plot of agricultural land.
On this ground, she had an apprehension, that Tonu would attempt to extract money by misinforming the other personnel.
Her husband is a retired Government servant and her innocent siblings are supporting the family, she said in the complaint, while requesting the senior Army officer to punish the ex-AR personnel to avoid unwanted incident in the future.
Even after filing the complaint, the team led by Tonu (a retired lance naib) on December 14 again came to her house and one seeing them her frightened husband stumbled resulting in serious injuries, she contended.
Soon after, her husband was rushed to RIMS Hospital for treatment, where he succumbed away at around 10 pm yesterday.
