Suspected underground activists ambushed a CRPF team in between Keimai and Sibilong villages on the National Highway 53 today afternoon killing three personnel on the spot.
The underground UNLF has claimed responsibility for the attack saying it was carried out by a unit of its armed wing - MPA.
The casualties included three havildars and a constable belonging to the 132 battalion CRPF, said sources and conveyed of two others critically wounded in the attack that took place at around 1.45 pm.
The ambush site is located about 27 kilometres east of Nungba police station and 165 kms from the State capital.
Tamenglong district police added that the CRPF personnel stationed at Keimai post were on their way to procure bamboos from Sibilong village which is about 3 kms from the said post.
