Imphal, January 14:
Kuki Students' Organisation, General Headquarters has appealed to all the people to restrain from randomly and loosely using the generic term Kuki in connection with the Lungnila Elizabeth murder case.
We have a strong feeling that the image of the Kuki community is being politically and willfully maligned since revelation of the kidnapping of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth, and this is not god for the harmony and integrity of Manipur, information and publicity secretary of the Kuki students' body Thangminlen Haokip said in a statement today.
Taking note of the hullabaloo over the hot pursuit and subsequent arrest of one Letsei alias James Kuki, who is accused of being the kingpin behind the case, KSO has raised a series of questions so that innocent persons should be spared from undue harassment and victimization .
Stating that it would be in the best interest of one and all to avoid tarnishing the image of the Kuki community as a whole over the case, KSO demanded to know the real surname and full name of James Kuki alias Letsei and whether three are any physical or circumstancial evidences that linked him to the case beyond any reasonable doubt.
KSO further questioned why only James Kuki alias Letsei is being specifically targeted when other accused persons are hardly even named at all and how he could be dubbed as the kingpin or the mastermind even when he had never been thoroughly interrogated.
In order to clear the matter for once and all, KSO demanded that all the suspects and the accused parties should be brought together to the Court of law and tried fairly.
The students' body also appealed to NSCN (I-M) and Govt of India to hand over James to the investigating authority so as to establish his involvement and nature of the crime committed beyond any reasonable doubt.
Let him be given a chance to defend himself in the Court of Law.
No one is guilty until proven so by the Court and justice must not be compromised by emotion and prejudice, KSO pleaded, and categorically stated that if he is found guilty then, he and all his accomplices should be given the harshest punishment by the law.
