Noor Rehaman Sheikh, the first Manipuri Muslim who got direct IPS rank by clearing the Civil Service Examination in 2002 in which he secured the 217th rank, is likely to become the first among the OBC and General candidates from Manipur to make the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) cut securing 187th rank in the Civil Service Examination, 2003 conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
The result of the examination was announced yesterday and Noor passed the examination securing 187th rank overall, while he 34th rank among the OBC candidates.
Out of the five IFS seats reserved for the OBC candidates, Noor got the 2nd rank as such there is a great possibility of him going for the IFS post.
However, there has been no official confirmation from UPSC in this regard.
Noor is presently at Nagpur undergoing probation as an IPS officer.
