In the last couple of days, many villagers have been taken ill after the outbreak of dysentery (water borne disease) in Sawomphai village in Chandel district with the disease spreading to other surrounding villages.
One Komkhoneng Mate w/o Jamthang Mate of Sawomphai village succumbed to the epidemic on August 17.So far the epidemic has affected Sokom, Sugnu tribal village, Boljang, Ucha Tampak, Sangpiyang, Thingbongphai, New Kafam, Nazareth village, New Lamka, Liashangbung, Munpi and Sarungphai village.
On receiving report of the outbreak, a medical team led by the CMO of District Hospital Chandel Dr Polly Nola has reached the affected area and is treating the villagers besides providing medicines free of cost.
Under the aegis of KSO Sugnu Block, a free medical camp was also organised at Sugnu tribal village today during which 206 villagers belonging to 13 villages were treated.
Medicines were also distributed to
the villagers.
Dr Nomita who is a member of the medical team said that most of the patients were suffering from dysentery.
Saying that the disease is not dangerous, she suggested proper hygiene washing of hands before eating and boiling drinking water to prevent infection by dysentery.
