Governor Dr SS Sidhu has given the assurance of setting up an Urdu Department in the Manipur University as part of the efforts being made to promote Urdu language under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, announced Director of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language Dr Ali Javed while talking to mediapersons here today.
Talking to mediapersons after the conclusion of the three day-long seminar on the 'Impact of Mir Taqi Mir on Urdu poetry' organised by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India since October 26 at the auditorium of 1 Manipur Rifles , Dr Javed the seminar was organised with the main objective of not just to discuss and analyse the works of noted Urdu writer Mir Taqi Mir but also to develop the Urdu language.
During the course of the seminar, a team of Urdu scholar led by him had gone to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor.
The Governor encouraged the efforts being made for development of Urdu language and assured setting up of a Urdu Dept in Manipur University, Dr Javed informed.
Expressing regret over dropping of Urdu language from the school syllabus after it was taught in schools under the Government of Manipur till 1972, Dr Javed said there is the need to start teaching the language in the school again and appealed to all the resource persons and specially Dr M Nara for taking up the responsibility in this connection.
Theatre personality Padmashree Ratan Thiyam and ex-MLA Dr M Nara who were also present at the occasion also stop on the importance of Urdu language as well as on the need for development of Manipuri language.
The National seminar on Urdu language which was held for the first time in Manipur has adopted six different recommendations.
These include introduction of Urdu language in the primary, elementary and high schools of the State, setting up of an Urdu Academy in the State, taking up steps by the Government for translation of literary works in Urdu to Manipuri language and similarly to translate the literary works in Manipuri language to Urdu language, introduction of certificate and diploma courses of Urdu language in the Manipur University, introduction of Urdu language as an optional subject in the colleges and Higher Secondary schools and increasing the number of computer training centres of Urdu language in Manipur from its present seven centres in consideration of the population of the students.
Urdu scholars and intellectuals from different parts of the country participated in the three-day long seminar which had been divided into five sessions for thorough discussion on promotion and development of Urdu language.
