Works Minister inspects NH 39

Imphal, July 28: In continuation of his drive to inspect conditions of roads and bridges in the State, particularly in hill districts and remote areas, Works Minister K Ranjit inspected the condition of NH 39 stretch from Imphal to Mao today. The inspection tour of the PWD Minister was also participated by TD Minister DD Thaisii, MLA K Raina, ex-MLAs RK Theko, Francis Ngajokpa, PWD Chief Engineer and other officials.

After his tour, K Ranjit said that repairing work of the 82.5 kms long stretch from Imphal to Maram will be entrusted to the State PWD while the remaining portion from Maram to Mao having a length of 24.5 kms will be entrusted to BRTF.

At present, the PWD has started road development work in Motbung area covering a distance of 2 kms and along the 12 kms long stretch from Senapati Bazar to Changoubung village.

For these road development works, more than Rs 1 crore has already been sanctioned, disclosed Ranjit adding that the contractors concerned have been instructed to do the repairing work anew with due emphasis on quality.

Even as black topping along these sections was completed in March this year, bitumen layers have been broken at several points and at other spots, concrete layer have already been exposed.

Comparatively, the black topping work undertaken by BRTF in Mao area was far better qualitatively.

To facilitate proper execution of the highway development work entrusted to the State PWD, a team of PWD officials led by the Chief Engineer will be leaving Imphal tomorrow to submit a detailed project report to the Ministry of Road and Surface Transport, informed the Minister.

K Ranjit has also given stringent instruction to PWD officials to maintain work quality in all development and repairing works henceforth.

The team led by the Minister also inspected other works being taken up in Senapati such as construction of ADC office, mini-Secretariat building etc.

The team further inspected the 40 kms long road from Tadubi to Tungjoy which connects Kharasom.

The repairing work of this road began last year after Rs 1 crore was sanctioned for the same purpose.

Talking to reporters during his tour, K Ranjit said that a bridge connecting to Senapati hospital will be built over Senapati river at the cost of Rs 2 crores.

The Maram-Purul road will also be developed at the cost of Rs 4 crores.

Another Rs 1 crore will be earmarked to develop the road from Makhan to Chawanamei.

All the road development works will be taken up within this year.

Above these, two guest houses will be built at Senapati district hqs and Mao at the cost of Rs 1 crore each this year, assured Minister Ranjit.
