Imphal, January 27:
The second phase of UNIDEP (Unity, Development and Peace) Campaign came to a close on January 25 at Longa Koireng under Senapati district.
The third phase of the campaign would be launched after the Assembly elections.
The programme was graced by president of Koren (Koireng) Youth Organisation Sheikson Tumtin, DI Chandel L Rilson, AMUCO president and convenor of UNIDEP Campaign R Yangsosong Koireng, ex-chairman of NRC S Bhubon, secretary general of AMUCO NC Khuman and spokesman of COHR Phulindro Konsam as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, Phulindro Konsam dwelt on militarisation and violation of human rights.
He observed that deployment of security forces in the name of providing security to development projects and imposition of black laws such as AFSPA 1958 to contain insurgency serves as a clear case of violating human rights because of militarisation in Manipur.
In addition to violation of human rights under the black laws, there were many other cases of rights abuses by security forces defying laws of the land, he noted.
NC Khuman asserted that Govt of India has been pursuing hidden agenda aimed at destabilising integrity amongst ethnic groups of the State.
He observed that the Union Government should first defuse the communal bomb if they are sincere enough to restore peace in Manipur.
Saying that AMUCO would support and cooperate with all ethnic groups in holding conferences and mobilisation aimed at promoting their identities, the AMUCO secretary general declared that AMUCO would not accept any resolution adopted by different ethnic groups against the unity and common interest of Manipur.
AMUCO would challenge any kind of anti-Manipur resolutions and stance.
Meanwhile the 41st general conference of Koren (Koireng) Youth Organisation (KYO) held at the same venue concluded today.
On the fourth day of the conference yesterday, polling to elect new office bearers of KYO and many sporting events were held.
Moreover debate and extempore speech competitions were also organised.
