Imphal, May 26:
The fastest growing town in the state, Churachandpur has now called for allocation of the famed National Institute of Technology (NIT) within its terrain apparently to weed out the sense of deprivation of the hill people.
A representation by the Churachandpur District Students Union in this regard has been presented to the Chief Secretary today.
In its memo, CDSU said Churachandpur, being the second largest town in the state is still deprived of any central institute of repute at a time when state capital is bestowed with central institutes like the MU, CAU and RIMS.
"Churachandpur with good connectivity from the state capital can become another important hub of education, and that even students from other districts and outside can easily access Churachandpur to study if there is a reputed institute like NIT noted the memo.
It also claimed that NIT is needed to cater to the needs of the new generation in this fastest growing township especially in the field of science and technology.
