Imphal, August 24:
While condemning strongly the murder of 14-year old Manju after a failed rape attempt at Katomai village in Senapati district headquarters recently, the Senapati District Womenfolk (SDWF) has urged the authorities concerned who took away the killer to award befitting punishment.
Local sources said the murderer identified as Hormi alias Ningthou Liangmei (37) of Katomai Village was taken away by suspected NSCN (I-M) cadres minutes after he committed the crime at around 10 am of August 16.Athia Moroo, convenor of SDWF, while referring to an agreement supposedly reached between the family of the deceased girl and a prominent Naga civil organisation, has lamented that the latter could not produced the copy of the agreement to the women's body.
While sharing the grief and pain inflicted on the bereaved family, the women's body also appreciated the restraint that Manju had shown to save her chastity before being shot dead by the attacker.
SP of Senapati district Nishit Ujwal said an FIR has already been registered at Senapati Police Station in connection with the incident and investigation is on to nab the culprit.
NSCN (I-M) has not said anything in connection with the incident or the charges of taking into custody the murderer.
