Imphal, Jul 24:
All Manipur Die-in-Harness Appointment Demand Committee has announced its decision to impose a 48-hour Manipur bandh with effect from midnight of August 4 if the demand to revive the abolished Die-in-Harness scheme is not met by August 4, even as security personnel were pressed into action today to disperse hundreds of protestors from near the gate of Chief Minister's bungalow.
With placards and festoons in their hands, the protestors were coming toward the gate of the Chief Minister's bungalow this afternoon, when the Manipur police personnel posted there baton-charged and dispersed them from the high security zone area.
It is said Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was not present at his official bungalow when the incident took place.
The Chief Minister was away to inspect the Khuga Project.
The protest was demonstrated under the banner of All Manipur Die-in-Harness Appointment Demand Committee.
Meanwhile, announcing the decision of calling the bandh if the Die-in-Harness Scheme is not revived by August 4, the Committee in a statement appealed to the people to bear with the inconveniences for the sake of the unfortunate applicants.
Giving strong warning against defying the bandh, the statement however, informed that religious function and medical service would be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
