Governor Dr SS Sidhu made a visit to Chandel district Hqs by road today.
In the DC's office, he interacted with public leaders of the district including MLA Morung Makunga and district level officers of different Departments, informed a statement from the Raj Bhavan.
MLA Morung Makunga and the public leaders apprised the Governor about the various shortcomings being endured by the Chandel people in terms of road communication, drinking water supply, power supply, telecommunication, health care, school education, sports facilities, auditorium etc.
After listening to the woes of the people, Dr Sidhu assured that the State Government will be advised to speed up the improvement work on Pallel-Chandel road and to complete the same by the end of this financial year.
The Governor also advised the Executive Engineer of the PHED to ensure completion of the Augmentation Scheme to supply drinking water to the districts Hqs latest by September 1 this year, conveyed the release.
Concerning power supply, the SE was asked to ensure that upgradation of the transformer at Heikakpokpi to 5 MVA be completed at the earliest.
He even assured that he will intercede with authorities concerned at Imphal, if need be.
While expressing deep concern over the alarming sero-positivity rate of 28.08 percent in Chandel district, the Governor called upon all concerned to combat the menace of HIV/AIDs in the district.
Noting that the PDS system has failed miserably in all the districts of Manipur including Chandel, Dr Sidhu assured the gathering that all the issues put up during the interaction will be examined in detail and he will take them up with the State Government, wherever necessary, concluded the release.
Taking advantage of the Governor's visit to Chandel district Hqs, the Moyon Naga Students' Union sought intervention of the Governor to upgrade the South East Manipur College, Komlathabi to a full fledged Government college.
The students also apprised the Governor of the slow pace road development works in the district, conveyed a release.
