Governor urged to ensure justice

In connection with the death of M Sangkhu during delivery at RIMS, a mass rally was taken out today before a memorandum demanding justice was submitted to the Governor.
In their attempt to block the large number of people coming towards the Raj Bhavan, police resorted to firing tear gas shells and live rounds in the air.
Earlier, a large number of people belonging to the JAC constituted in connection with the death of Sangkhu and volunteers of Maring Women Society, Sandangshenba Women Society, Keirao Wangkhem Women Development Organisation and Phunal Maring Women Organisation staged a sit-in-protest at New Chekon since 10 am today.
At around 1.30 pm, the protesters headed towards Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to the Governor.
The rallyists were blocked at Sanjenthong by security personnel.
Following the attempt of the rallyists to move past the police barricade, there was some tussle between the crowd and the police personnel.
In the meantime some protesters who were till then in the rear came upfront and shouted various slogans like "Book the guilty doctors", "Doctors, don't kill patients" etc.
To block the agitated crowd, police resorted to firing tear gas shells and live rounds in the air.
Some women protesters breached the police barricade and ran towards Chief Minister's bungalow where they were stopped by another team of security personnel.
There leaving behind some representatives of the JAC to submit a memorandum to the Governor, the protesters turned back.
The memorandum mentioned that M Sangkhu was admitted to Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of RIMS on February 16.Till February 19, Sangkhu lay on the floor for want of any vacant bed.
While she was lying on the hospital floor, any kind of treatment was not done to Sangkhu.
Even as the relatives pleaded to treat Sangkhu, the Hospital staff there said that she would be treated only when doctors come on their routine round in the ward at 8 am of February 19.In the morning of February 19, Sangkhu complained of acute abdominal pain.
Shortly after, Sangkhu succumbed to the ailment.
Asserting that irresponsibility and negligence of the concerned doctors are responsible for the death of Sangkhu, the JAC demanded a judicial enquiry into the case and to book the guilty doctors.
The JAC also demanded an amount of Rs 3 lakhs as ex-gratia to the bereaved family.
