In connection with the upcoming 9th State Assembly elections, the Delimitation Commission of India has summoned the State Chief Electoral Officer to New Delhi.
An official source informed The Sangai Express that the State Chief Electoral Officer RR Rashmi has been summoned to exclusively discuss the forthcoming elections in Manipur on November 23.It may be mentioned here that according to the concept paper prepared by the Delimitation Commission of India, three Assembly Constituencies of the valley districts were supposed to be added to hill constituencies.
However, the delimitation process was stalled following petitions filed by different political parties in Court.
Meanwhile, so far 15,000 names included wrongly in the electoral list of the hill districts have been detected during the verification process undertaken by Booth Level officers under the State Election Department.
Most of the faulty electors are women as their names are included in two separate polling stations after their marriages.
It is reported that the State Election Department is preparing to conduct physical verification of the electors.
