Imphal, Jul 16:
As part of the Nation-wide protest being launched by the Left parties against the hike in the prices of essential commodities by the Congressled coalition UPA Government at the Centre, a day-long Wakat Meepham was staged at Lamshang Bazar today.
The protest demonstration organised under the aegis of CPI Imphal West District Council was attended by party MLA M Nabadwip, State executive members and other workers of the party.
Addressing gatheirng at the demonstration, MLA Nabadwip said that hike in the prices of essential commodities by the UPA Government at the Centre has caused more suffering to the people in general and the daily wage earners in particular.
The ongoing Nation-wide protest has been launched as the demand of the Left parties, which are also partners of the coalition Government, to normalise the prices of the essential commodities has not been considered.
People should revolt against such anti-people policies being pursued by the Congress-led UPA Government and take up a collective responsibility to rectify the existing flaws in the Public Distribution System so that the essential commodities are made available to the people at reasonable prices.
Other senior leaders like Dr L Shyamkumar and Dr H Borajao who also spoke at the occasion charged the UPA Government with unnecessarily hiking prices and causing artificial scarcity of food stuffs.
