Imphal, January 16:
Formally announcing the formation of Komrem People's Army (KRPA), a new armed outfit, whose main objective is said to bring together all the scattered Komrem people and its sub-tribes living in different parts of the North East region and to work for the unity and integrity of Manipur, its chairman has sought the support of the people in all its endeavours.
Addressing mediapersons somewhere in Imphal East district today afternoon, chairman of Core Committee, KRPA Amte Joshua Kom said KRPA was set up in 2004 with the stated objective of bringing together all the Komrem people and its sub-tribes scattered all over the North east region including Manipur.
But it had not been formally announced to the people mainly on account of the pressures that Komrem people and its organisations might received.
Now the outfit is ready to meet any challenges that might pose in trying to build up a national character of such people.
On the issue of integrity and unity of Manipur, Joshua said KRPA is committed to promoting peace and unity among the various ethnic groups of people living in Manipur since time immemorial.
He also appealed to all the people for co-operation and support in safeguarding the interest and the rights of the Komrem people whose number are diminishing.
KRPA has also strongly condemned the killing of chief of Samulamlan village K Rekhupthang Kom and former MEELAL president Chingsubam Akaba by unidentified armed persons without giving any warning.
