Imphal, April 15:
While strongly condemning remarks of the Chief Minister O Ibobi on April 13 at Tamenglong, the two student bodies of ZSU (Tamei Area) and KSO (Sadar Hills) who are behind the 15 days old economic blockade on both the national highways clarified that the ongoing agitation is impelled by the irresponsible attitude of the State Government.
A statement issued by spokesperson of the two student bodies, Wilurou observed that as per an understanding with the State Government, development work of IT road was taken up with much zeal.
Even as a stretch of 26 km of the road was completed, trouble and confusion arised due to alleged dilly-dallying tactics resorted to by State PWD in issuing necessary Letter of Intent (LoI) and Work Orders among others.
On the question of contractors proposed by the student bodies, it noted that the proposal was made to ensure quality and pace of work as many contractors fail to complete their works within the stipulated time as was observed in numerous cases earlier.
They also remarked that many contractors, while making maximum sacrifice on work quality, are hell bent on extracting profit out of their works.
Moreover, several contractors are crippled by the monetary demands and threats of many UG groups, it mentioned.
Considering all these factors and with no ulterior motive other than development of IT road at the earliest without any compromise on quality, the names of these resourceful and sincere contractors were proposed taking into full account of their past records, asserted the two student bodies.
