Rich tributes were paid to Maharajah Narsingh on the occasion of his 157th death anniversary today.
The anniversary observed as 'National Dedication Day' was held at Kangla auditorium with Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing as the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, the MP highlighting the sacrificial spirit of Maharajah Narsingh and his contributions towards protection of Manipuri identity called upon all the MPs, Ministers and MLAs of the present day Manipur to uphold the ethos and principle harmony and progress of the Manipuri society.
Stating that a memorial structure/statue of Maharajah Narsingh is necessary, he pointed out that the State Government need to contribute all its mite in realising the aspirations of the people.
Apparently saddened on seeing only a handful of people participating in the anniversary function, Rishang Keishing asserted that a function to pay tributes to such an important figure of Manipur needs to be organised on a wider scale and encourage public attendance.
The anniversary programme organised by Maharajah Memorial Celebration Committee was also attended by IAS (Retd) E Sonamani and Yaiskul AC MLA E Kunjeshore as the functional president and guest of honour respectively.
While recalling contributions of Maharajah Narsingh in protecting the Manipuri Nation, several speakers mentioning that the Awa leader who led the invasion of Manipur is being accorded befitting respect by erecting a statue at Tamu proposed for a memorial site with statue at Moreh in honour of Maharajah Narsingh's bravery while driving out the invaders.
