The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the alleged rape and subsequent life attempt on Yumnam Babita of Langol Zone-IV has demanded the State Government to punish the accused Angam Singlai ahead of the forthcoming State Assembly session.
Addressing a press conference at the Meira Shang of Langol Zone-IV today, assistant secretary of the JAC Th Bishwajit said the State Government should give befitting punishment to Angam Singlai before the upcoming Assembly session which is slated to begin from March 16.Otherwise, the JAC would be constraint to launch intense agitation with the support and co-operation of other social organisations, he warned.
He also clarified that the JAC has been restraining itself from launching agitation in connection with the incident to avoid outbreak of communal tension among the people of various communities residing in Langol area.
But it is really unfortunate that some of the family members of the accused person have come to RIMS where Babita is undergoing treatment to threaten her, Bishwajit said.
The JAC conven-or who also addressed the press conference demanded that the date on which the accused person would be produced in the court should be made known to the public.
In the meantime, the State Govt should provide security to Babita.
The convenor further appealed to all the doctors to discharge their duties sincerely in conducting DNA testing and help in finding out the truth of the matter.
