Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has asserted that conversion of Manipur University into a Central University has not only added grievances but also push all the tribal community into a dire strait.
In a statement, general secretary of MUTSU Michael Lunminthang said that silently observing all the developments like a mute spectators will only heap more and more problems.
'We are being denied our genuine right to education, employment and citizenship.
The Government's attitude of addressing the grievances of the majority community and complying to their demands is a deadly weapons for a welfare State', Lunminthang said.
He went on to say that the tribal community had suffered silently long enough and could not carry on with their hardships.
'Our prayers and petitions to many forums and offices have fallen on deaf ears.
Our elders had been a victim and our youngsters will also suffer if the problems are not properly addressed by the Government', he added.
To discuss the future plan of action, Lunminthang informed that a general body meeting of the student body has been convened on January 13 at the Students' Home of the University at 11 am.
All the students and research scholars of the University have been invited to attend the said meeting positively.
