Imphal, August 07:
All Colleges Tribal Students' Organisation, Manipur (ACTSOM) has strongly condemned the alleged offensive activities committed by a team of MLAs in breaking the lock of the SC/ST godown located within Ajimjati campus and taking away the GCI sheets without the permission of the authority concerned as well as beating up its deputy speaker for opposing it on July 29.In a statement signed by its general secretary Jean Panmei, ACTSOM informed that a team of MLAs comprising of four MLAs came to the SC/ST godown located within the Ajimjati campus along with their security escorts at around 5.30 pm on July 30 and forcibly broke the lock of the godown with the help of an axe.
After that they started loading innumerable bundles of GCI sheets in two trucks without the permission of the Directorate for Development of SC/ST.
The executive members of ACTSOM, the office of which is located in the said campus accidentally turned up at the relevant time but they could do nothing but observe the process of loading the GCI sheets as bystanders.
When the TD Minister arrived at the spot, he directed to unload the GCI sheets from the trucks.
But after the TD Minister went back to the CM bungalow, loading of the GCI sheets started again at the behest of the MLAs.
Seeing that executive members of ACTSOM intervened to stop it, the security escorts of the MLAs beat up RN Koireng, deputy speaker of ACTSOM.
An MLA also thrashed RN Koireng and threatened him with dire consequences, the student body alleged, while drawing the attention of the Chief Minister to take up necessary action in this connection.
Jean Panmei said ACTSOM would be constrained to take up various mode of agitation against the Government in the event of failing to fulfil its demand within a week's time.
ACTSOM would impose indefinite blockade on the National Highways if the Government fails to reciprocate within the stipulated time, Jean Panmei said, while appealing to all the student bodies, NGOs and Unions for co-operation in this regard.
