Imphal, June 07 2009: Asserting that the KYKL has not given any direct or convincing answer to the 10 questions raised in connection with the killing of Prof Md Islamuddin, PULF today said that the questions were raised as per the wishes of the people.

In a statement, secretary publicity of the outfit, Aanish Khan said that it is unfortunate that the KYKL has not been able to give any convincing answer with evidences and added that this could be due to the fact that the death penalty was awarded in haste without giving it much thought.

Such killing will only further erode the confidence of the people in the armed movement and armed organisations, said PULF and added that the killing of the Prof does not befit a revolutionary organisation.

History is testimony to the fact that even during times of intense war, great care is taken to ensure that places of education and civilians are not disturbed, said PULF and added that even today KYKL has not been able to come out with any direct answer to the posers raised by different organisations, including MUSU.

After minutely dissecting the statements issued by the KYKL through the media, it has become obvious that Prof Islamuddin did not deserve to be given the capital punishment, said MUSU.

Quoting an old English proverb, to err is human, to forgive divine, PULF said that as a human being Prof Islamuddin may have had certain shortcomings, but he certainly did not deserve the death penalty.

Even the KYKL must know this and so do the public.

Earlier, there have been more serious cases where the death penalty was not awarded by the KYKL, said PULF.

By dissecting the news reports in the media, it must be clear to all as who were behind the murder of the Prof as well as who instigated it said the outfit.

The outfit went to ask why KYKL, which had taken up a mission to cleanse the education system in the State was involved in trying to mislead MU.

Why did the KYKL fail to respond to the poser raised by MUSU in connection with a student leader with fake certificates as well as in a mark tampering case involving a teacher of MU, countered PULF.

Though Prof Islamuddin is no more it still stands true that the truth cannot be smothered, said PULF and added that it would be right for all to understand that imposing one's view or stand on others without thinking about its negative impact on the people and the place, should be done away with.

The family members of Prof Islamuddin and the student community may not be able to do anything against armed organisations, but the truth stands that without the support of the public, the armed groups cannot survive, it said.

On the statement of the KYKL, that PULF appears to be speaking only for the Meitei Pangal, the statement said that this is a misconception.

The outfit said that 20 pc of its members are Meiteis while other communities make up 5 pc.

PULF has never kept aloof from any issues confronting the place, said the statement and added that it will not do so in the future.

The outfit agreed that it takes keen interest in some issues confronting the minority Meitei Pangal and countered, that if it does not do so then who will.

The statement also asked what programmes the KYKL has taken up for the Meitei Pangals.

In name of the betterment of society and to cleanse it of many ills, KYKL had earlier killed many Meitei Pangals, fined many and severely beaten many.

Though many of the victims included civilians, PULF remained quiet for it was all done in the name of bettering society.

Giving an example of civilians becoming victims, PULF alleged that two students (studying to become Maulvis) were killed by KYKL cadres while they were on the hunt for a drug dealer named Thoibi in 2005 .

It would be so much better not only for the KYKL but also for all to admit that they have committed a wrong deed, said PULF.

The outfit said that it has raised the 10 questions and to provide evidences because it was keen to stop to gradual erosion of people's faith in the armed movement and organisations.

The posers were raised not on the basis of community or on the basis of one's strength or weakness, it added.

Appealing to all sections of the people, PULF said that there should be no room for double standard and added that for the land to develop it is important to study the issues concerning the backward sections and see what can be done for them.
