Imphal, June 07:
In the aftermath of the death of a 38-year old woman having 10 children during a clash that took place at Khomidok Mayai Leikai under Heingang Police Station at around 9.45 am yesterday, furious local people have set on fire the house of the accused killers apart from having taken a decision to banish them from the locality for life.
The woman victim killed in the clash is identified as Mina Bibi (38) w/o Md Ibosana of Khomidok Mayai Leikai.
Although the accused persons identified as Sanatombi w/o Md Babu and her two sons namely Md Samir (24), Md Badal (26) and Md Sherkhan (22), also from the same locality, have gone into hiding, their house has been burnt down by the incensed locals.
According to representatives of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Mina Bibi of Khomidok, arguments over some petty matters between Ajitkhan (18) s/o Bibi and the sons of Md Babu yesterday turned ugly and led to a fight.
Mina Bibi had come out to stop the fight, but Sanatombi w/o of Babu and her two sons beat her up brutally.
Mina Bibi was rushed to hospital but she passed away on the way.
Soon after the news spread, infuriated local people gathered at the house of Babu at around 10 pm yesterday demanding to hand over the accused persons.
But as there was no one in the house, the incensed mob burnt down the house.
On receiving the report, a police team led by SP of Imphal East District Kailun rushed to the area and controlled the mob.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident, but there is no report of arrest of any of the accused persons till late evening today.
In connection with the incident, a public meeting was held at Khomidok Bazar today.
Taking serious note of the matter, the meeting has decided to banish all the accused persons for life from the locality.
Other resolutions of the meeting include to exert pressure on the Government to arrest the killers at the earliest possible and giving ex-gratia-amount of Rs 5 lakhs to the family members of the victim, not to allow any person to occupy the land of the accused persons and to extend full support to the JAC by all the organisations and Meira Paibis in taking up any agitation in this regard.
The meeting also further decided not to take back the body until and unless the Govt gives a positive response to these demands and provide a detailed report on the matter.
The body of Mina Bibi is lying at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
