Imphal, December 04:
Contending that frequent transfer of district administrator affects the development works being taken up, various Ukhrul-based social organisations have come out strongly against any move to transfer the present Deputy Commissioner of the district to another place.
While recalling that memorandum as well as representations have been already submitted to the Government expressing strong resentment against the practice of frequent transfer of Deputy Commissioner, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has warned of taking recourse to agitation if the Government goes ahead with the move to transfer the present Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district to another place.
TKS expects positive response from the Government in this regard and if the Government has ears only for agitation and confrontation, TKS is prepared to deliver the goods, its president M Worthington said in a statement.
Opposing any move to transfer the Deputy Commissioner, Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Ukhrul district recalled that district administrator of Ukhrul had been transferred atleast seven times since 2000 thereby jeopardising the development works in the district.
Due to limited period of their posting, most of the development fund released from Centre also lapsed, general secretary of KSO Ukhrul Th Helun Baite said, adding that apart from having benefited the Kukis from the developmental schemes implemented by him, the present DC is planning to take up many more developmental activities in the district.
The Ukhrul Students' Union and NSUI, Ukhrul have also strongly opposed any design to transfer the DC, reports our correspondent.
Meanwhile, Tangkhul Naga Long, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long and Tangkhul Shanao Long have urged the Chief Minister not to transfer the Deputy Commissioner.
In a memorandum jointly submitted to the Chief Minister, the three Tangkhul bodies asserted that the incumbent DC has been performing his duty efficiently and without any prejudice.
Moreover, frequent transfer of Deputy Commissioner affects the developmental works being taken up in the district, the memorandum further pointed out.
