wins heart MBC once again reflects the spirit of a united Manipur

Imphal, October 04 2010: Foundation stone of a tribal girls' hostel to be aptly named Legacy has been laid inside Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) complex at Chingmeirong today by Chief Minister O Ibobi.

Among others, the foundation stone laying function was attended by TD Minister DD Thaisii and Principal Secretary (TD) LP Golmei.

General Secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention, Rev Vumthang Sitlhou set the right tone for the inaugural function to proceed, when he pointed out that MBC is made up of all communities and reflects the spirit of unity of Manipur.

It is the beauty of this concept that should not be forgotten, he added.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi observed that as many institutions are located at Imphal, students are facing a lot of problems in finding accommodations like hostels etc.

Girl students face these problems more acutely.

It was with the intention to ameliorate these problems that the decision to build the girls' hostel was adopted.

There is no question of discriminating boys in this decision, the Chief Minister said.

He stated that efforts are on to find a plot for building another hostel around Chingmeirong and the plot is likely to be identified soon.

Saying that construction of the three markets of the unique Ima Keithel has been completed and is awaiting inauguration, Ibobi stated that the authority is facing a difficult situation on who and who would be issued vendor cards in addition to those who are already holding IMC cards.

To settle the matter in the most agreeable manner, a committee comprising of MLAs has been constituted to handle allocation of vendor seats.

As the three markets cannot serve all the people coming from different corners of Manipur, the Government has adopted a resolution to build market complexes at different locations not far away from Imphal city, Ibobi stated.

Maximum efforts are being put in to finish construction of the market being built at New Lambulane within the current month.

Above these, the Government is searching land for construction of a market shed near Khuman Lampak Inter-State Bus terminus to facilitate marketing of produces brought from Ukhrul and Senapati.

It would be very convenient for traders and customers alike if the market is constructed near the bus terminus.

Likewise, preparations are being made for construction of another market at Canchipur keeping in view of the produces brought from Canchipur.

Underscoring the importance of public cooperation in these development programmes, the Chief Minister noted that it would be impossible for the Government to implement these programmes without public cooperation.

He further asked people to donate lands required for these projects sincerely.

Harbouring differences and animosity based on religion among the people would not be correct, the Chief Minister said while calling upon all sections of the people to strive together towards peace and development.

In his speech, DD Thaisii stated that hostel would be built by built by Tribal Development Minister with 100 per cent funding from the Centre.

There be would no shortage of fund for building the hostel but it would depend on the sincerity of those people engaged to build it, he said.

To avoid any compromise on quality and undue delay, the authority decided to entrust the construction work to a society like MBC instead of contractors.

The Government would be acting only as supervisor, the TD Minister stated.

Including this hostel of estimated cost Rs 5 crore which would accommodate 150 hostellers, the Government of India gave consent to construction of eight hostels in Manipur.

Carrying on from where he left in the beginning the General Secretary of the MBC said that the basic aims and objectives of the MBC is to ensure peace, prosperity and harmony adding that it is a symbol of unity.

All Churches in Manipur are its affiliates.

The other hostels would be built at Senapati Hqs, Purul in Senapati district, Kangpokpi, Tadubi, Pallel, Moreh and Luwangshangbam near Liberal College.
