Responding to the call of All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO), a large number of students from various schools staged a sit-in-protest demonstration at Lilong Bazar today demanding declaration of the percentage of seats to be reserved for the minority Muslim community in Manipur.
Activists of AMMO-COC and UMMWDO also participated in the demonstration.
Decrying the failure of the Government to keep its commitment on the issue of reservation for the Muslims in the job recruitment as well as in admission for higher studies, the protestors also warned of launching various intense agitations if the Government fails to do the needful in this regard.
The protestors further warned that the Government should be held responsible for any eventualities that might occurred during the course of the agitation.
Meanwhile, expressing solidarity to the agitation being spearheaded by AMMSO, Islamic Sporting Association, Urup Khunou Youth Club.
Social Development Council (Yairipok Ningthounai), Muhammadan Sporting Association (Kiyamgei Muslim), Immortal Club (Yairipok Bamon Leikai), etc, in separate press statements, have exerted pressures on the Government to make public the percentage of the seats to be reserved for the Muslim community in Manipur at the earliest possible.
These organisations have also announced their unflinching support to any future course of action taken up by AMMSO in pursuance of the long standing demand.
