All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has served an ultimatum to the Mumbai-based pharmaceutical firm, Wockhardt Pvt Ltd stating in no uncertain term that all the medicines manufactured by the firm would be banned in Manipur if it does not stop supplying Spasmo Proxivon (SP) tablets to Manipur within August 20.Informing this while talking to mediapersons at the Keishampat head office of AMADA today, executive member of the Association, Th Robungo Mangang said the ultimatum has been served as SP tablets are still available despite an earlier notification given to the pharmaceutical firm to stop supplying the same in the interest of the people of Manipur.
The ultimatum addressed to the Managing Director of the company demanded to know whether any of the agencies/pharmacies/stockists in Manipur have legal biding with the company for selling SP tablets.
The ultimatum further pointed out that the drug is also being smuggled into Manipur from neighbouring States.
Meanwhile, stepping up ongoing anti-drug drive, AMADA activists have reportedly rounded up three SP tablet abusers today even as two other drug addicts who were involved in stealing utensils from a place where Utsav was organised and sold them m off to buy drugs have been handed over to AMADA.
The SP abusers have been identified as Yakhan Khullakpam s/o Kasim of Kabeisoi, Gullamayum Mahendi s/o Bashir of Hatta and Oinam Joyshanker s/o Joychandra of Soibam Leikai.
Three boxes of SP tablets along with four strips and 2 capsules were seized from the possession of Yakhan and one strip of SP tablets from Mehendi while Joyshanker was allegedly posing as AMADA member and abusing the drug.
The other two drug addicts identified as Ngangom Dambloo s/o late Joychandra of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai and Lolen Hangshing of Kangpokpi, but presenting staying at North AOC were handed over to AMADA by the local people of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai after they were caught stealing two Korphus and two buckets from a house where Utsav was organised.
