Imphal, November 30:
The proscribed RPF and its armed wing PLA has called for a boycott of the Prime Minister's visit to Manipur on December 2.A statement issued by the Assistant Secretary of RPF's Communication and Publicity Lily Leima asserted that on account of the continued killings of people and cases of wanton violation of human rights which has become the order of the day with the imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 under the policy of the Government of India, the people of Manipur are becoming more and more hostile to the India.
The strong voices of condemnation raised from every quarter of the society against the diabolic and atrocious policy followed by the Government of India in Manipur in the face of persistent violation of human rights has made Irom Sharmila to launch an unprecedented six year long fast unto death stir.
Even then the Government of India has been scheming to nullify and belittle the democratic values of the unparalleled campaign undertaken by a daughter of Manipur, noted the statement.
Unsatisfied with the wanton killing of people under the immunity provided by AFSPA, the Government of India further instituted another inhuman Act under the name of POTA.
Saying that the visit of the Prime Minister is aimed at encouraging and strengthening the Indian security force in harassing and committing atrocities on the people of the land and to drive a wedge among the blood brothers of the State who have been living in harmony since time immemorial so that Indian rule is consolidated in Manipur, it declared that RPF and its armed wing PLA with the people of Manipur would boycott the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Further, the outfit has called a general strike from 6 am of November 2 till 6 pm.
Medical service, electricity, water supply and other essential and emergency services would be exempted from the purview of the general strike, added the statement.
