Imphal, January 21:
To protest imposition of the Indian Constitution, seven underground organizations of the North Eastern region have given a boycott call of Indian Republic Day celebration on January 26 in the region.
In a joint statement, Arunachal Dragon Federation (ADF), Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO), Manipur People's Liberation Front - MPLF (PREPAK, RPF, UNLF), National Democratic Front of Bodoland, national Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) have imposed a general strike from 1 am of January 26 till 6 pm throughout the region to denounce the expansionist agenda of the Indian Govt.Describing the 'peace talk' gesture of the Indian Government as an attempt to lure 'us' one by one into their time tested trap, the statement said that the Centre is at the same time adopting a more aggressive stance in South East Asia mainly to suffocate the voices of the people.
Such 'peace talks' without freedom and independence on the agenda are primarily designed to serve India's military strategy to suppress the sovereign movement, contended the organizations adding the process are meaningless, wastage of time and resources that will ultimately affect not only the morale of the outfit's rank and file but also the national liberation movement of the region.
Genuine peace in the region can be brought about only when genuine freedom and independence is restored to all the people of the region as a whole, it further maintained.
Brushing aside New Delhi's tag of 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' to the liberation movement as irrelevant, the organizations asserted the struggle is not against the Indian Government or the Indian State but aimed at overthrowing from the region illegally imposed Indian colonial rule as sanctioned by relevant International Covenants.
