Kohima, February 13 (NNN):
Passengers of two Sumo bound Mizoram were accosted by well armed persons, suspected to be members of a hill based underground outfit at a spot called Tuima in CCpur district and severely assaulted.
The incident occurred yesterday at about 11.55 am.
The vehicles left CCpur town for Aizawl yesterday at about 7 am.
According to one of the victims, the passengers were stopped at Tuima by about 7/8 well armed persons and after searching them, made them lie down on the road.
Then they were severely thrashed by the armed persons.
Though one passenger showed his papers that he was proceeding to Aizawl as a referee for the Under 19 BC Roy Foot ball Tournament, the passengers were accused of being spies of the UNLF and thrashed.
The papers were also seized by the armed men.
The referee was then taken upto Songtan on a Gypsy which arrived at the scene and he was let off there along with his papers.
The referee managed to catch an Aizawl bound truck carrying vegetables and managed to reach his destination.
The referee is presently at Aizawl.
