The dawn of e-governance in the State would not be too long for the people to wait as the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has submitted a project report to the Government for computerization all departments.
According to an official source, the project report prepared at the initiation of the Union Government is awaiting the approval of the State Cabinet for its implementation.
Once the Cabinet gives its nod departments concerned would be allowed to take up the computerization work at their own conveniences, the source said.
The Departments could also approach the funding agency of their choice for carrying out the task, it added.
As part of the e-governance project, a pilot project is likely to be taken up in the two divisions of the Electricity Department which is one of the highest revenue earning Departments of the State, for introducing computerised billing system by the end of this year, according to the source.
After seeing the success of computerised billing system in Bihar, the State Government has decided to rope in assistance of the NIC, Bihar for introducing the computerised billing system in the State Electricity Department too.
As for the State Transport Department, the source added, efforts have already been taken up for computerising the District.
Transport Offices of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.
Computerisation of the Transport Department would also help in tracing those vehicles sold off by their owners on the sly so that compensation could be sought from Insurance Companies, the source said, recalling that many of the vehicles sold off by such unscrupulous owners from Delhi have been seized in Manipur recently.
