Imphal, December 17:
The Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) expressed strong annoyance and displeasure at the State Government's opposition to ceasefire agree- ment between the Indian security forces and eight Kuki revolutionary organisations.
Speaking on the occasion of the KLA's 14th anniversary (Reformation) Day at its Zion Camp in Sadar Hill today, the outfit's information and publicity secretary Malsawn Vaiphei described as unfortunate negative response of the State Government to the ceasefire agreement which could have had tremendous affect in bringing peace and tranquillity.
Contrary to frequent appeals from the Government side inviting armed organisations for a negotiated settlement the very stance adopted by the State in opposing the ceasefire is confusing and reflects lack of sincerity in solving various insurgency related problems, he said.
The publicity secretary further observed that in the absence of peace and tranquillity aspiration of the general public for a developed and prosperous society would be impossible and prevailed upon the State authorities to reconsider their stand.
The fact that Government is unwilling to welcome the ceasefire pact is itself very perplexing and reduces its own claim of endeavours to restore peace in the region into a futility, he observed.
Observing that the ceasefire reached with eight Kuki revolutionary groups would pave the way towards bringing a political solution to the vexed issue, he assured KLA's support to the cause.
Malsawn, however, hastened to informed that as decided by the central working committee of the KLO/KLA no monetary offer would be accepted from the Government send through any source.
Observing that enmity amongst various armed organisations would never lead to attaining the cherished goals, the secretary called upon all concerned to shed narrow differences so that divisive forces could be dealt with accordingly.
Conveying KLA's warm wishes on the arrival of Christmas and new year, Malsawn expressing heart-felt gratitude to members of the public for extending cooperation to the revolutionary group also thanked the almighty for providing the opportunity to take up the cause of Kukigam (Fatherland).
