Imphal, November 12: An intense gun-fight is reported to have ensued between a Bishnupur police-commando combined team and suspected underground organisation members at Thanga Lawai area of the district yesterday afternoon.

According to official source, the police-commando team rushed towards Thanga Lawai area following specific information of a large number of unidentified armed persons loitering there.

As the security personnel neared the said location the armed activists numbering around 15 fired shots resulting in fierce gun-fight for about 15 minutes.

While the armed persons fired sporadically and scampered towards Patong side from where they escape in a canoe the State forces recovered an SLR rifle along with a magazine and 30 live rounds from near another canoe.

Further searches led to the detection of a farm-hut believed to be make-shift hideout of the UG group and recovery of tooth brushes and pastes.
