Imphal, February 16:
Reiterating its stand on the common syllabus and text books issue, All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has threatened to launch a series of intense agitations if the Government try to forcefully impose the common text books in the schools of hill districts.
In a statement, ATSUM president John Pulamte denounced the Government's threat to cancel of recognition and affiliation of schools which do not comply with the common syllabus norms.
The student body said that introduction of the newly prescribed text books from the current academic year in the hill districts is no longer possible at all.
Government's order to implement the said syllabus and text books was made known to private schools only in January 2004 by which time all the schools had already decided their own syllabus and text books, Pulamte stated.
