The inaugural function of the five day long XXV State Level Science Exhibition for Children, 2004-05 jointly organised by Department of Education (S) Govt of Manipur and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) New Delhi was held at Johnstone Higher Secondary School today.
Commissioner Education/Schools P Bharat Singh (IAS) and Retd Director of Education E Yaima Singh graced the function as the guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the Commissioner while expressing great satisfaction at the large number of participants at the exhibition said that such exhibitions should be held more often in the State to showcase the scientific minds of our talented students.
He also opined that parents, students as well as teachers have equal responsibility in bringing about a transformation in the Govt Schools which are really in pitiable conditions.
In his presidential speech, E Yaima appealed to the organiser to hold the exhibition annually and help make the students aware of the scientific development around them.
He also assured to extend all possible help in organising similar exhibition in future.
Students of Lalambung Makhong High School also displayed a drama based on environment and ecology in the closing part of the function.
Altogether 100 students from different parts of the State participated at the exhibition.
As a part of the programme, a seminar on the theme "Popularisation of Science" was also held at the school campus prior to the inaugural function today with former MU VC H Tombi as chairperson.
